Digital Water Supply and Sewerage Networks Across the Lifecycle, phase 1: Glossary and Classification
Infrastructure Call for project team members openThe concepts, classifications and information content used in the design, construction and maintenance of water supply and sewerage networks are currently fragmented. The quality of source information varies, information often requires manual processing, and design and as-built models frequently remain disconnected from water utilities' network information systems. This makes it more difficult to use and enrich information throughout the network lifecycle and leads to additional work and quality issues.
The project aims to establish a basis for consistent, lifecycle-wide information modelling of water supply and sewerage networks. In the first phase, a glossary covering the key concepts related to water supply and sewerage networks will be developed, and the necessary classifications will be defined, harmonised and supplemented. The work will build on and align existing materials, including the Infra Construction Classification, InfraRYL and InfraBIM Classifications, as well as guidance on surveying, documentation and information exchange in the water services sector.
The resulting shared glossary and classification will enable unambiguous processing of information on water supply and sewerage networks across systems, organisations and lifecycle stages. They will improve quality of source and handover information, reduce manual work and establish a basis for automated information exchange, more effective asset management and the progressively enriched information model to be developed in a later phase of the project.
The project is co-funded by the Finnish Water Utilities Association.
Meet the team
Steering group
A steering group has not yet been appointed. A potential decision on establishing a steering group and its composition will be made as the project preparation progresses.
