Client Guidelines for Procuring Information Modelling in Construction Projects
Enabling efficient use and management of information throughout all phases of a construction project, based on standards and tailored to national context.
What is the Client Guidance?
The Client Guidline is part of the RYTV project programme, which aims to standardise and harmonise information modelling practices within the construction sector. The guidance is based on international standards, particularly the ISO 19650 series, and is adapted to meet Finnish requirements. Its goal is to enable clients to consistently define project objectives, requirements, and quality levels, thereby improving the use and transfer of information throughout the entire project lifecycle.
Currently, practices vary significantly across different sectors and client organisations, leading to confusion, inefficiencies, and suboptimal use of information. The new client guidance provides a unified framework in which principles of information management are clear and easy to apply. This supports improved quality control, centralised information management, and the development of machine-readable data.
Clients will benefit significantly from the guidance: standardised requirements make it easier to prepare and compare tenders, clear instructions improve information quality, and the guidance enables automated quality checks. In addition, it supports climate reporting and circular economy requirements as part of overall project information management.
The project is progressing in an agile manner, and clients are invited to participate in its development by providing feedback and helping to shape the content of the guidance. The aim is to publish version 1.0 of the guidance on the RYTV platform and launch a communications campaign in early 2026.
Clients now have an excellent opportunity to influence the development of the sector by actively contributing to the creation of the client guidance. You can contact the project team using the contact details below.
