The updates to the Infra Construction Element Classification (InfraRO) from 2023 have not yet been integrated into the InfraBIM classification. This has caused inconsistencies between InfraRO, InfraBIM, and the Infra Contractor Coding, hindering the effective management of construction processes. Currently, the classifications are only available in human-readable formats, which limits their digital distribution and usability.

The core objective of the project is to update the InfraBIM classification and Infra Contractor Coding to align with the 2023 InfraRO classification and to publish them in both human-readable and machine-readable formats. In addition, the project will clarify the intended use of the classifications through guidance documentation. Guidelines will also be developed for the adoption of the buildingSMART Data Dictionary (bSDD), including clear rules of engagement for using the platform and sharing content. This will enhance the use and distribution of classifications among industry software and technology providers.

The project follows agile development principles, enablig a fast development cycle and flexible responses to changes in requirements.

As part of the project, buildingSMART Finland’s own bSDD content library will be established, enabling the digital and machine-readable distribution of the InfraBIM classification. This will support software and technology alignment across the industry and optimize the dissemination of the classifications. Creating the rules of engagement will ensure consistent practices and readiness for broader adoption of the use of the bSDD in Finland.
