Tommi Arola is appointed as Research Director for Digitalization of the Built Environment at Building Information Foundation RTS.
Tommi Arola takes over as Research Director from the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom on 1.9. onwards. He will also be working as Director of Operations for BuildingSMART Finland.
Building Information Foundation has decided to set up a research unit focusing on current challenges of built environment. The new Research Director manages RDI activities related to the digitalization of the built environment and promotes standardization and fluent information management. He is also responsible for buildingSMART operations in Finland. Mission of the Building Information Foundation RTS is to promote good town planning, building and property management practices by producing, developing and offering generally accepted, unbiased and up-to-date information for all industry players.
Tommi Arola has a solid track record of research, experimentation, innovation and development of knowledge capital in the transport sector. He has been active in a number of research, development and innovation assignments in the digitalization of the transport sector. Arola holds a Master of Science degree in land surveying technology.
Arola is excited about his new mission and states that: “The digitalization of the built environment is a top priority, supporting good building practises, creating solutions to climate issues and building growth in Finland.” He sees solid data modeling and standardization in the construction industry as an excellent foundation for customer-centric digital services and new forms of collaboration.
The Building Information Foundation RTS sr is a private, non-profitmaking Foundation whose task is to foster both good planning and building practices and good property management practices.
BuildingSMART Finland, affiliated with RTS, is Finland’s most important collaboration platform for information modeling.
